Importing items from a Pinterest board
If a client has been collecting on Pinterest, you can turn their board straight into a room list with priced items — no re-finding every product by hand.
Connect Pinterest
- Go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect Pinterest.
- Sign in to Pinterest and approve access. Mortar only ever asks to read your boards and pins — nothing is posted or changed on your Pinterest account.
- The connection is per person, not per studio — each designer connects their own Pinterest account, and it works for any project you have access to.
The collaborator step
Pinterest only shows Mortar the boards you own or have been added to as a collaborator — a board someone only sent you a link to will not appear in the picker, even if you can see it in your browser.
If a client's board is missing: ask them to add you as a collaborator on that board (in Pinterest, from the board's "..." menu → Share → Invite a collaborator, using the email your Mortar Pinterest account is signed in with). A shared link on its own is never enough.
Import a board
- From a project's Rooms & Zones page or its Overview, click Import from Pinterest.
- Pick the board. You'll see every pin, grouped by the board's own sections — map each section to an existing room, a brand-new room, or skip it.
- Each pin shows one of four states:
- Product — the pin links to a retailer page and will be scraped into a priced item.
- Not a product page — the pin links somewhere that isn't a product (a blog post, an Instagram post, an aggregator page). Not selected by default; you can still include it.
- Already in project — this exact product link is already an item here, so it's skipped by default.
- No link — the pin has no outbound link at all and can't be imported.
- Choose which pins to bring in, then click Import. Each one becomes a draft item — named from the pin's title, with the pin's note carried over as the item's designer notes — and is queued for scraping, the same as pasting a product URL by hand.
- You'll see a result summary once it's done: items imported (grouped by room), anything that failed (with a one-click retry, or a link to save it manually if the retailer's site blocked the scrape), and anything skipped.
Quota
Importing a pin costs one scrape, the same as adding an item any other way, and counts against your plan's monthly scrape allowance. Your first Pinterest import gets an additional one-time allowance on top of your regular quota, so getting started doesn't eat into your usual monthly budget. If a board has more pins than you have quota left, Mortar tells you exactly how many won't fit and lets you import what fits now — nothing is silently left out.
What we don't store
We don't keep a copy of anything from your Pinterest account. When you import a pin, Mortar reads the retailer link it points to and scrapes that page — the resulting item is Mortar's own data from then on, editable like any other item. Board names, pin ids, and pin content itself are read fresh every time you open the picker and are never saved on our side. Checking a board again later re-reads it from Pinterest rather than remembering anything about it.
Checking for new pins
Pinterest boards aren't synced automatically — there's no live feed. To pick up anything a client has added since your last import, open the board again from Import from Pinterest and re-run the picker; anything already in the project shows as Already in project so you won't create duplicates.
Disconnecting
Go to Settings → Integrations and click Disconnect. This removes Mortar's access token immediately — any items you've already imported stay exactly as they are, since they're Mortar's own data.
